Wrapping/Laminating colored clay Tuesday 2-5pm
This listing is for the Tuesday 2pm-5pm class. This class runs for eight consecutive weeks during the Fall term which runs from September 8th until November 2nd 2025.
This class is very unique in its subject matter and students who have previous experience on the wheel are highly encouraged to try it. In this class Pete (your instructor) will teach you the art of coloring clay by mixing mason stains into your clay and using that material to create patterned slabs which are used to wrap or laminate onto wheel works. This creates visually interesting works of art with no glaze required. This class uses porcelain and can be compared to the Japanese technique Neriage. Note that this class can be challenging if you are new to clay and previous experience on the wheel is recommended.
This class includes one 25lb block of porcelain and four stains. Additional clay may be purchased if the student runs out.
The studio has limited tools and tiles for community use, feel free to purchase your own bat system and bring your own tools which you can store at the studio. Please note that clay and firing fees are not included in the cost of class and must be purchased separately at an additional cost. Open studio is free and unlimited and each student is issued their own private shelf to store works in progress and tools for the duration of the class.
