This listing is for the Saturday 11am-2pm class. This class runs for eight consecutive weeks during the Summer term which runs from June 22nd until August 16th.
Review the basics of wheel throwing, fine tune techniques and work on more complex forms in this all levels course with Susanna. Advanced and intermediate students are welcome, but demos will focus on improving more basic techniques. Students will have the flexibility to work with the instructor on individual project goals if desired. This schedule may evolve based on the needs of the class. Prerequisite note: This course is appropriate for students who have already taken a beginner wheel-throwing course or equivalent.
The studio has limited tools and tiles for community use, feel free to purchase your own bat system and bring your own tools which you can store at the studio. Please note that clay and firing fees are not included in the cost of class and must be purchased separately at an additional cost. Open studio is free and unlimited, and each student is issued their own private shelf to store works in progress and tools for the duration of the class.
Week 1: Cylinder review: cups and mugs.
Week 2: Taller cylinders and shaping: vases and lidded jars
Week 3: Bowls and pedestal bowls: connecting multiple forms. Trimming review.
Week 4: Throwing off the hump: making multiples.
Week 5: Blates and saucers. Slip decoration.
Week 6: Final week to make greenware.
Week 7: Final week to trim greenware for bisque firing. Glaze demonstration.
Week 8: Final class for glazing.
