Beginner Wheel Thursday 6:30-9:30pm
This listing is for the Thursday 6:30-9:30pm class. This class runs for seven consecutive weeks during the Fall term which runs from 11/3-12/23 (there are six actual class meeting dates.
This course is designed for complete beginners. During the class, Meiasha will guide you through the fundamental processes of wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing.
Meiasha uses research Evidence, and stories of familial communion within Black domestic space to inform their relationship with various objects, practices and people and has been using clay work and ceramics to extend that practice for many years. As a teacher Meiasha engages students in learning the behavior and foundational technical aspects of clay to build their own creative process with the material by setting formal aesthetic goals that represent their desired outcomes.
8-Week Course Outline

• Week 1: Introductions, Cylinder
• Week 2: Review of process
• Week 3: Basic shaping techniques
• Week 4: Thanksgiving - No class
• Week 5: Surface effects/Trim Demo
• Week 6: Last week to trim/individual meetings
• Week 7: Final class and glazing of all works
The studio has limited tools and tiles for community use, feel free to purchase your own bat system and bring your own tools which you can store at the studio. Please note that clay and firing fees are not included in the cost of class and must be purchased separately at an additional cost. Open studio is free and unlimited and each student is issued their own private shelf to store works in progress and tools for the duration of the class.
