This listing is for the Thursday 6:30-9:30pm class. This class runs for eight consecutive weeks during the Fall term which runs from September 8th until November 2nd 2025.

This course is designed for complete beginners and beginner-ish students. Over the course of 8 weeks, Celia will guide you through the fundamental processes of wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing, with an emphasis on skill-building and creative exploration.

Celia encourages students to embrace the curiosity and playfulness of working with clay. Whether you're drawn to tackling an ambitious project, joining in on a throwing challenge, or just letting the clay guide where a piece takes you. 

Class time is a space to tap into your creative side, disconnect from the world, and develop a hands-on skill.

8-Week Course Outline

(Each term shakes out differently based on student interest and goals)

    •    Week 1: Intros, studio orientation, centering demo, cylinder demo

    •    Week 2: Basic shaping techniques, practice pulling walls

    •    Week 3: Trimming demo, continued throwing practice

    •    Week 4: Bowls vs. plates, tall vs. low vessels 

    •    Week 5: Repeat trimming demo, handle demo, decoration

    •    Week 6: Student requested demos, throwing day

    •    Week 7: Trim & finish all work; pieces go into bisque firing

    •    Week 8: Glazing day — glaze, glaze, glaze!

The studio has limited tools and tiles for community use, feel free to purchase your own bat system and bring your own tools which you can store at the studio.  Please note that clay and firing fees are not included in the cost of class and must be purchased separately at an additional cost.  Open studio is free and unlimited and each student is issued their own private shelf to store works in progress and tools for the duration of the class.
