


Intermediate Wheel Monday 6:30-9:30pm
This listing is for the Monday night class that meets from 6:30-9:30pm. This class runs for eight consecutive weeks during the Fall term which runs from September 8th until November 2nd 2025.
This advanced/intermediate course led by Lou is designed for students with foundational pottery experience who want to expand their skills and explore sophisticated ceramic techniques. Students should have prior wheel throwing experience and familiarity with basic pottery processes. The course emphasizes technical refinement, creative exploration, and mastery of complex forms. Students will work closely with the instructor to develop personalized artistic goals and challenge their existing skill set.
The studio provides basic tools and equipment for community use, though students are encouraged to bring their own specialized tools and equipment for advanced techniques. Please note that clay and firing costs are separate from the class fee and must be purchased additionally. Students enjoy unlimited access to open studio time and receive their own designated shelf space for storing works in progress and personal tools throughout the duration of the class.
Week 1: Advanced throwing techniques and large-scale vessel construction
Week 2: Lidded containers and precision fitting techniques
Week 3: Altered forms and sculptural vessel manipulation
Week 4: Multi-piece constructions and complex assemblies
Week 5: Advanced surface treatments and texture development
Week 6: Slip trailing, sgraffito, and decorative techniques
Week 7: Advanced glazing methods including layering and resist techniques
Week 8: Final glazing, troubleshooting, and portfolio review/critique
